Silicon Slopes Summit 2025 has been incredible, and the Fullcast team is thrilled to be a part of the conversations about entrepreneurship, startup strategies, and business leadership!
Since 2017, Utah’s longest-running grassroots tech event has provided the business community with expert insight and resources to successfully navigate the changing tech landscape.
Our CEO, Ryan Westwood, shared his entrepreneurial experience and how he does “Founder Mode” during a Silicon Slopes Summit 2025 expert panel session on the UCCU campus.
Here are three pieces of advice he’s used to build good companies from the ground up.
- Connect with cofounders that you would never want to compete with because of their skills and talent. Find ways to convert them from competitors to partners. Pairing their expertise and unique perspectives with your own creates a positive energy that drives a win-win situation.
- If a candidate for the executive team is experienced, knowledgable, and industry savvy but doesn’t want to reinforce their commitment with actual investment –pause. You want people who are driven as investors in this business.
- Do not get distracted by the shiny yet inexperienced hires that look good on a resume. You need a person who has successfully navigated this stage in the past and has the knowledge and determination to help carry the company through the next stages.
Ryan also shared the importance of passion in building a great team. “When you get to pursue something you’re passionate about—not just a job but something you’re really passionate about—that focus will influence and inspire the people who work with you,” he said. “As entrepreneurs, we have the incredible privilege to not just build a vision, but to handpick the brilliant, passionate people who help bring it to life. It’s rare and definitely worth celebrating every day.”
Thank you, Ryan, for your incredible insights!
